Fishing Report for early Autumn, 2006
This is perhaps one of the best times of fishing in Northern MI both for quality of fishing and the variety available at this time of year.
First, Smallmouth and Walleye have perked back up after a pretty warm Summer and are much more active. A combination of drifting w/livebait (leeches are my choice) and slinging suspending jerkbaits are my preferred 1/2 combo now for taking both bass and walleye. Typical trips right now are providing a good mixed bag with this approach.
Second, SALMON are coming! Get ready, with the recent cool off in temps and some much needed rain, they are inching closer and closer to the rivermouths. Good reports are already coming in from pier fisherman casting spoons.
There is simply nothing more exhilerating than a fresh, chrome 20lb salmon doing battle standing along a riverbank. See top right picture as an example.
September is the best month for this action up here so book early, the weekends tend to get busy.
